The Minto Arts Council is welcoming artist Debra Lengyell with her latest show Coming and Going, which will run from April 5 to 28 at the Minto Arts Gallery at the Harriston Public Library.
An opening artist’s reception will take place April 5 from 6 to 8pm at the gallery.
A former art teacher, Lengyell took early retirement in 2011 to pursue art full-time.
She has exhibited her award-winning work in many galleries and juried shows including Homer Watson Gallery, The Art Gallery of Hamilton, The Etobicoke Civic Centre, among others.
A few years ago, Lengyell was given a commission to paint an expensive car. Since then she has become fascinated with vehicles and movement, a move away from landscapes.
In Coming and Going, Lengyell explores how people move themselves around the world, from place to place, in different landscapes and in different vehicles, “turning the ordinary into something special,” organizers state.
“She draws what she sees first and then completes her textured impressionist pieces using a palette knife, making use of light and shadows,” states a press release from the arts council.
